How to Save TikTok Videos on iPhone: A Step-by-Step Guide

The complete walkthrough for downloading TikTok videos to your iPhone without installing apps, using Safari and TikSave.

What you need

  • An iPhone running iOS 13 or later (most iPhones from the iPhone 6S onward)
  • Safari browser (it comes pre-installed)
  • The TikTok app (to copy the video link)
  • A working internet connection

That is it. No third-party apps to install, no accounts to create, no jailbreaking required.

Step 1: Find the video on TikTok

Open the TikTok app and navigate to the video you want to save. Scroll through your For You page, check a specific creator's profile, or use search. Once you are on the video, pause it or let it play. It does not matter.

Step 2: Copy the video link

Tap the Share button. It is the arrow icon on the right side of the screen, below the comment and like buttons. A share sheet will appear at the bottom of the screen.

Scroll through the options in the bottom row and tap Copy Link. You will see a brief "Link Copied" confirmation at the top of the screen.

If you do not see "Copy Link" in the share sheet, scroll the bottom row of icons to the right. It is sometimes hidden behind the messaging app shortcuts.

Step 3: Open TikSave in Safari

Switch to Safari. You can either type tik-save.com in the address bar or, if you have used it before, it should appear in your recent history or bookmarks.

Important: use Safari specifically. Other browsers like Chrome on iOS can sometimes handle downloads differently, and Safari's built-in download manager provides the smoothest experience.

Step 4: Paste the link and resolve

Tap the input field at the top of TikSave's page. Then tap Paste (or long-press the field and select "Paste" from the popup menu). Your TikTok link should appear in the field.

Tap the Download button. TikSave will spend a few seconds resolving the video. You will see a loading indicator, and then a preview card will appear showing the video's thumbnail, title, and creator.

Step 5: Choose your format and download

Below the preview, you will see download buttons:

  • Download HD -- The original quality video without watermark
  • Download SD -- Standard quality (smaller file, may include watermark)
  • Download Audio (MP3) -- Just the sound track

Tap your preferred option. Safari will show a dialog asking if you want to download the file. Tap Download.

Step 6: Find and save the downloaded file

This is where most people get confused on iPhone, because iOS does not automatically save video files to your Photos library. Here is where to find it:

Using Safari's download manager

  1. Look for a small blue arrow icon in Safari's toolbar (top-right area on newer iOS versions, or bottom toolbar on some models).
  2. Tap the blue arrow to open the Downloads list.
  3. You will see your downloaded MP4 file listed there.
  4. Tap the file to preview it.
  5. Tap the Share button (the square with the arrow pointing up).
  6. Scroll down and tap Save Video. This moves the file into your Photos library.

Using the Files app

Alternatively, open the Files app on your iPhone. Navigate to:

  • On My iPhone (or iCloud Drive) > Downloads

Your video file should be there. Tap it to preview, then use the Share button to save it to Photos if you want it in your camera roll.

Troubleshooting common iPhone issues

"Safari cannot download this file"

This usually happens on older iOS versions (iOS 12 or earlier). Make sure your iPhone is running iOS 13 or later. Go to Settings > General > Software Update to check.

Download starts but the file is empty or corrupt

Try clearing Safari's cache: Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data. Then try the download again.

The video saved but has no sound

This is rare, but it can happen if you downloaded a video where TikTok separated the audio track (common with licensed music). Try downloading again using the Standard Quality option instead.

The video is in my Files app but not in Photos

You need to explicitly save it to Photos. Open the file in Files, tap the Share button, and select "Save Video."

Pro tips for iPhone users

Bookmark TikSave. Long-press the TikSave tab in Safari and tap "Add Bookmark" or "Add to Home Screen." The home screen shortcut makes it feel like a native app.

Use the Shortcuts app for automation. If you download TikTok videos frequently, you can create an iOS Shortcut that opens TikSave with the clipboard contents automatically pasted. This saves a couple of taps each time.

Check your storage first. High-quality TikTok videos can be 20 to 80 MB each. If your iPhone is low on storage, consider downloading in Standard Quality or clearing old files first. You can check storage in Settings > General > iPhone Storage.

iCloud Photos sync. If you have iCloud Photos enabled, videos saved to your Photos library will automatically sync to iCloud and appear on your other Apple devices. Keep this in mind for storage and data usage.

What about downloading from the TikTok app directly?

TikTok does have a built-in "Save Video" option. The difference is:

  • TikTok's save: Downloads a re-compressed version with the TikTok logo and creator username watermarked onto the video
  • TikSave: Downloads the original source file without any watermark

If you do not care about the watermark, TikTok's built-in save is fine. But if you need clean footage for editing, reposting, or professional use, TikSave gives you the original.

Some creators also disable the "Save Video" option in their settings, which prevents you from downloading through TikTok's app at all. TikSave works regardless of this setting, as long as the video is publicly viewable.

A note on content ownership

Downloading your own videos is always fine. Downloading someone else's public videos for personal offline viewing is generally acceptable. But re-uploading, selling, or commercially using another creator's content without permission crosses into copyright infringement territory. Be respectful of the people who create the content you enjoy.
